Amputation

Separation of a body part by trauma is called amputation. Amputated part may be a part of the limb or entire limb etc. The management of amputation is of extreme importance. If proper care is taken and the victim is taken to the hospital immediately, the amputated part can be re-implanted. Take the following measures in case of amputation:

• Control the bleeding. It is important to save life of victim.
• Call for ambulance immediately.
• Carry the amputated part along with victim.

Take the following measures to pack the amputated part:

• Brush off any gross contamination and cover it with clean cloth
• Place it in a bag and seal it
• Put this bag in ice or cold water filled container
• Do not let the amputated part come into direct contact with ice
