Fracture

A complete or partial breakage of a bone is called as fracture. It is also commonly seen during road crashes or other forms of accident. A fracture can be simple (closed) or compound (open). In open fracture a portion of the bone is visible outside the body. The common symptoms of fracture are:

  • Pain at or around the site of the fracture.
  • Swelling over the area with discoloration.
  • Loss of normal movements of the affected part.
  • The limb may lose its normal shape.

First Aid for fracture include the following steps

  • Control bleeding if any.
  • Avoid all unnecessary movement.
  • Stabilize and support the injured part so that no movement is possible.
  • Immobilize the fracture area and the joints on both sides of the fracture site.
