Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is the act of giving artificial breaths and compression to the chest so that the heart can pump blood to the rest of the body. It can help to keep a person alive after heart and lungs have stopped functioning. CPR should be administered by a trained person only.
Who needs CPR?
When a person is not responding, no pulse is recognized (carotid or radial pulse), absence heart beat and no respiration is seen it implies need of CPR to be given to the victim.
Steps to Administer CPR
Step 1: Checking response of the patient
Step 2: If no response is seen, call ambulance immediately. Mention exact location of the accident site and confirm the total number of injured persons.
Step 3: Sit in the correct position, locate the sternum bone at the middle of chest.
Step 4: Start chest compressions at rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute for 30 counts.
Step 5: Give two rescue breathe and continue the procedure till medical help arrives or the victim’s pulse is revived.
