Innovative Approach to Road Safety
Road Safety is a continuous process and we need to strive to achieve another target once a milestone is achieved. It is important to note that despite putting serious efforts by the Government and other stakeholders, the spike in road crash deaths and injuries is very disturbing. The Department of Transport and Road Safety in its continuous process seeks working in collaboration with other departments to plan further activities and initiatives on road safety. There are certain activities which are in pipeline and the concerned departments are working towards achieving the proposed goals. The activities which are planned to be completed in next few months for improving road safety scenario in the state are described hereunder:
- Development of Road Safety Action Plan for next 10 years under World Bank funded Rajasthan State Highway Development Project of PWD.
- Integration of Medical & Health, NHAI and Private Ambulances under common emergency number.
- Strengthening of Road Safety Institutional Framework at Regional and District Level.
- Inclusion of Road Safety in College Curriculum in all faculties of higher and technical education is in progress. This would help in increasing awareness among young drivers.
- Introduction of policy for providing financial grant to civil societies for administering road safety activities in the State.
- Continuous awareness regarding road safety through all publicity mediums including Print, Electronic, Outdoor Media, Bus Panels, FM Radio, Social Media and IEC material throughout the year.
- Awareness drive regarding use of BIS Standard helmet and fastening of chin strap among two-wheeler drivers and pillion riders.
