Categories of Signals

There are different categories of signals such as

  1. Traffic Lights
  2. Hand Signals
  3. Signals Given by Lights of a Vehicle

Traffic Lights

To regulate different type of traffic lights are installed on roads. They include

  1. Traffic Lights on Junction (for motor vehicles)
  2. Blinking Lights or Blinkers
  3. Traffic Lights for Pedestrians
  4. Traffic Lights for Cyclists

Hand Signals

There are certain signals which are given using hand. The categories of hand signals involve

  1. Hand Signals Given by Drivers
  2. Hand Signals Given by Traffic Policeman

Signals by Vehicles Lights

Lights installed in a vehicle including headlight and tail light convey various types of signals such as:

  1. Vehicle applying brake (red lamp at the rear of vehicle)
  2. Vehicle is reversing (yellow light at the rear of vehicle)
  3. Vehicle taking a turn (amber indicators at rear, front and sides of the vehicle)
  4. Hazard lamp (left and right indicators blink together at rear and front of vehicle)
  5. Dipper – given by the driver while asking for permission to overtake a vehicle running in the same direction. Given by the driver to the vehicle approaching from the opposite direction to seek first right of way.
