Overtaking
Overtaking is another major cause of road accident that occur on undivided roads. The regulations for overtaking are as follows:
- A vehicle shall not overtake another road user unless it is safe to do so and is in contravention of the rules.
- A vehicle should overtake from the right side only.
- Vehicle can be overtaken from left side, if :-
- Both are driving on a multi-lane road it is safe to overtake from the left
- The vehicle is either turning right or taking a U turn
- The vehicle is stationary and it is safe to pass from its left
- Overtaking shall not be done if it is likely to obstruct oncoming traffic.
- While overtaking, the speed of the vehicle shall be more than that of the vehicle being overtaken but shall not exceed the maximum speed limit under the rules.
