Lane Traffic
The area of the road that is marked for the vehicles to drive is known as carriageway. A road is divided into multiple lanes and the physical barrier that segregates the traffic moving in opposite direction is called as the median. For safer and smooth flow of traffic in one direction within the lanes, the following things are required to be kept in mind by the drivers:
- Drive in the lane marked for road traffic and change the lane by giving appropriate signals.
- Drive the vehicle in the lane dedicated for the category of vehicle.
- The drivers should not cross the yellow/white solid longitudinal road markings. During some emergency situation blocking the road, the solid lines may be crossed by the driver with utmost safety.
- Before approaching an intersection, the driver should keep vehicle in the desired lane according to the turn they want to take.
- Driver may cross the broken line while overtaking another vehicle and must return to the designated lane after the overtaking is complete.
