Two-Wheelers and Road Crashes

According to the Global Status Report on Road Safety - 2018 published by the World Health Organization around 1.35 million people lost lives in road crashes in the world every year. The number of fatalities is higher in developing nations belonging to the low and middle income group. In South East Asian Countries, the share of fatalities of two-wheeler riders is 43% which is highest as compared to other regions.

In year 2021 total of 1,53,972 deaths were reported due to road crashes in India out of which 69,385 were two-wheeler riders which comprises of 45.1% share of total fatalities. Not wearing helmet leads to head injury in case of an accident which is the leading cause of death and disability.
