Vehicles Designated for Emergency Duties
- The driver of a vehicle designated for emergency services, including an ambulance, fire, police vehicle or other rescue vehicle, shall operate the siren and multi-coloured lights only when called upon by the emergency services.
- When the emergency vehicle's siren and lights are on, then other vehicles will give the right of way to the emergency vehicles.
- In the event of an emergency such as saving human life, preventing serious injury to the health of any person, preventing crime or causing damage to essential services or extinguishing a fire, the driver of an emergency vehicle:-
- can cross the red light
- can drive in excess of the specified speed limit
- can drive the vehicle at the stopping place of the vehicles on the highway
- can drive on a no-entry or one-way street
