Types of Helmet and Safety

As per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 both rider and pillion rider are required to wear an ISI marked crash helmet confirming to BIS standards. There are four categories of helmets which provide different levels of safety to the user. These are as follows:

  1. Full Face Helmet : It protects the head and face as well.
  2. Open Face: Helmet : It protects the head but does not offer ample safety for jaw and chin.
  3. Modular Helmet : It can be used both as full face and open face. It protects the head and face when used as full face.
  4. Tropical Helmet : Basically, it is designed for South Asian and South-East Asian countries having high temperature and high humidity. It provides minimal safety.
