Driving Safety
Principles of Defensive Driving – Part I
Defensive driving refers to use techniques that reduce the risk of road crash by remaining alert, being prepared for the unexpected condition. To become a safe driver, the following defensive driving tips could be useful:
Avoid Speeding: Speeding is the most common aggressive driving behaviour. No matter how late you are to your destination, resist the urge to speed.
Drive Sober: Drugs, alcohol, or medication are a factor behind majority of fatal crashes. Stay sober if you're getting behind the wheel that will help to make sound driving decisions.
Be Vigilant: Circumstances can change quickly on the road. Scan everything in your line of vision.
Keep a Safe Distance: Many accidents occur due to rear-end collisions. Tailgating can increase your likelihood of getting into a crash.
Look for the Road Hazards: Road debris, potholes, and cargo in the bed of a truck can quickly turn ideal conditions dangerous. Avoid road hazards by safely switching lanes or using your hazard lights and coming to a safe stop when necessary.
