Traffic Lights

In cities or urban areas there is heavy flow of traffic can be seen on the streets. Urban roads have lot of junctions where traffic approaches from all directions. Depending upon the number of roads intersecting, junctions can be of various types. It is important to control the flow of traffic at junctions otherwise it would lead in chaos, traffic jam and even accidents.

To control the flow of traffic at junction or intersections traffic lights are installed. They are usually placed at intersections to control the flow of traffic coming from all directions. It is required that the vehicle should move according to the signals indicated by traffic lights.

Traffic Lights to control vehicle movement are of three different colours namely Green, Amber and Red.

According to the road users traffic lights can be categorized as follows:

• Traffic Lights for Cycle Crossing
• Traffic Lights for Pedestrian Crossing
